ON DECK: Plenty of drama at Cocopah
Wow! The first race back from the summer break at Cocopah Speedway was certainly an exciting one.
Unfortunately, it was for the wrong reason.
Lost in the bickering over the Street Stock Division feature event finish, was the fact that Yuma drivers Adolfo Noriega and Bobby Horton, who have a tremendous amount of respect for one another, waged one heck of a battle.
Sadly, the fans in the grandstand and others did not know of a rule change, in which track personnel chose to adopt a green-white-checkered finish format, going away from the old format of no flag after the white flag but the checkered. Under the new format, if a crash occurs after the white flag flies, and no car has yet taken the checkers, a yellow flag will come out, signaling a green-white-checkered finish.
Under that format, like it or not, the finish was within the rule.
I hope you are like me and can hardly wait for the next race.
