AWC softball swept in DH
The Arizona Western softball team suffered its first doubleheader sweep of the conference season, falling to Pima 2-0 in Game 1 and 5-4 in Game 2 in Tucson.
Pima (14-2, 7-1 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference) - which has beaten AWC in 11 straight meetings - scored runs in the first and fifth innings on AWC starter Heidi McAllister (5-6), who gave up six hits in six innings. McAllister also had two of her team's four hits in Game 1, all singles.
The Matadors led Game 2 4-0 after three innings, but the Aztecs found their groove against AWC pitcher Shaylee Yellowhair in the fourth, scoring all five of their runs in same inning.
Cami Correa, Marquis Lozoya and Jessica Soria each had two hits for AWC, and Rena Herrera pitched 2-1/3 perfect innings of keep the Matadors in the game.
AWC (13-11, 8-4 ACCAC) will play a doubleheader at Gateway on Tuesday.
