AWC softball splits at Central
It took nine innings in the late game, but the Arizona Western softball team managed a split Tuesday at Central Arizona.
The Matadors lost the first game 4-0 but won the late game 7-6.
The Matadors (10-7 overall, 3-1 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference) scored four runs in the top of the ninth of the tiebreaker to get the win. Tori Rich's two-run triple in the ninth proved to be the game-winner. Yesenia Perez pitched 7-1/3 innings for the win, allowing five runs, three earned and 12 hits.
In the first game, Amber Taynton (2-3) took the loss, going three innings and allowing three runs, two earned. Taylor Bashor had two of AWC's four hits.
The Matadors host an ACCAC doubleheader against Glendale at noon Saturday.
