ON DECK: Classy San Luis
After watching the San Luis boys soccer team conclude their season Thursday night with a loss to Desert Vista, one thing stood out to me after the game — perspective.
There were no temper tantrums, no emotional outbursts. It wasn't because they didn't care about the game or weren't passionate about it, they were simply mature enough to leave it all on the field.
The Sidewinders maturity on the field also struck me. There was a lot of whining, flopping and yelling at the officials coming from Desert Vista, but not once did I see a San Luis player mouth off to a referee. To have the perspective that this not only is a game, but it a privilege, is something that I congratulate coach Ian McDougall on instilling in his kids.
After the game you could tell the seniors were hurting, but they were just as excited for their younger teammates and what was in store for them next year and the years after that. As McDougall said, “We grow soccer players. It's what we do.”
