Raiders sit starters, still cruise

Resting his top five runners for the boys and three for the girls, Cibola coach Kris Norton still got a pair of easy wins in a meet Wednesday at West Wetlands Park against Brawley and San Luis.


Freshman Josh Garren won the boys race in 19 minutes, 32 seconds, while Alexandra Aceves finished in 24:00 to win the girls race.


Cibola took the top two sports for the girls — Jocylen Rodriguez was second in 25:28 — while the boys had the top three finishers. Christian Alva was second (20:00) and Nathan Christopher was third (20:56).


The boys finished with 19 points, while Brawley was second with 47 and San Luis 61. Cibola had 18 for the girls, Brawley 38 and San Luis 85.

Hawks fall to Eagles


Nikki Kelland had nine kills, but it wasn’t enough as Gila Ridge lost at home to El Centro-Southwest 25-13, 25-17, 25-12 on Wednesday.


Anahi Torres had 15 digs, while Alanah Harmon had six kills for the Hawks (2-3).
