SAN CARLOS - Antelope's golf team made its first trip to the 1-2A regional qualifier on Thursday and the Rams decided they'd go ahead and just win it.

With a team score of 324, Antelope bested rival Yuma Catholic by six strokes and beat out nine other teams as well to claim the region crown.

"Being our first time at regionals I'm really proud of how our kids played," Rams golf coach Allen Hill said. "Our No. 5 golfer, freshman Fred Blohm, shot an 87 for us and that really turned the tide."

Henry Canan and Mieke Canan tied for sixth in the individual competition with rounds of 76 at Apache Stronghold Golf Course, while teammate Chuck Fincher shot an 81 to place ninth.

Yuma Catholic's R.J. Wood finished first overall with a round of 72.

Pusch Ridge placed third with a team score of 338, followed by S. Gregory's round of 342 and host San Carlos shot a combined 371 to round out the top five teams at the tournament.

Next up for the Rams is the 1-2A state tournament, which takes place May 7-8 at Aguila Golf Course in Laveen.
