AAU team advances to Elite 8

The Yuma Heat basketball team has picked up four wins during the AAU Division III National Championships in Hampton, Va. The squad, which has advanced to the round of eight, will play today the Swish City (N.C.) Magic at 8 a.m. Eastern time.
The Heat opened up a tournament with a 64-48 loss to the Maryland Tigers, but bounced back to win their next four games against Virginia Rising Stars (44-27), North Carolina Ballers (64-48), Durham (N.C.) Ballers (68-59) and Connecticut Express (71-60).
Carter Rodriguez led the Heat offensively during the tournament, averaging 20 points and six assists. Matt Pistone has averaged 18 points and T.J. Smith and Isaiah Brown have each averaged 10.
