Soccer playoff seeds announced
Four Gila Valley Region soccer teams will host first-round games when the 5A-I and 5A-II playoffs begin Tuesday.
On the boys side, both Kofa and San Luis will have the opportunity to host two games. The No. 3 Sidewinders open with No. 14 Brophy on Tuesday after claiming their seventh straight region title, while the No. 4 Kings host Tucson High on Tuesday. Both are 5A-I schools. If they win, each would host a second-round game on Saturday.
On the girls side, San Luis earned a home game as its reward for capturing its first GVR title, capturing the No. 8 seed and a home date against Mountain Ridge in the 5A-I bracket. Cibola also earned a No. 8 seed in 5A-II and will face Desert Mountain. Both would be on the road for the second round.
All games in the first two rounds of 5A start at 6:30 p.m.
On the 1A/2A/3A side, the Yuma Catholic girls finished No. 11 and will face No. 6 Florence 6 p.m. Tuesday at Red Mountain Park Field 2 in Mesa. The Antelope and YC boys will be at the same complex Tuesday, with No. 12 Antelope facing No. 5 Stafford at 4 p.m. on Field 3 and No. 10 YC battling No. 7 Fountain Hills at 4 p.m. on Field 6.
Second-round games would be Saturday at Red Mountain Park.
