Yuma wins with 9th-inning surge

The Yuma Scorpions broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the top of the ninth inning and Emiliano Fruto picked up his 25th save of the season Wednesday for a 6-3 win at Chico.

Reynaldo Rodriguez gave the Scorpions the late lead scoring from third on a wild pitch by Outlaws' reliever Ryne Tacker. Jose Mosquera followed with an RBI triple during the same at-bat and later scored on a sacrifice fly by William Hernandez.

Carlos Villalobos was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and scored three runs for the Scorpions (19-19 second half).

Yuma made it a 2-2 game in the fifth with two runs to take Yuma starter Roger Ramirez off the hook for the loss. Ramirez left the game after the sixth, then both teams scored a run in the seventh to stay level with one another. Dorian Castro got the win for the Scorpions pitching the seventh and eighth frames.

Former Major League Wayne Franklin allowed six hits and struck out six for the Outlaws (12-22 second half).

Ivan Reyes was 3-for-3 with two runs to lead Chico offensively.

Yuma will play its final game of the season at 7 p.m. today as the two teams close out their series.
