ON DECK: Mark Sanchez and Jim Morrison

Somebody at my apartment complex has a giant flag of The Doors' Jim Morrison flying on the back of their car.

I noticed it this morning and should have taken it as an omen.

When I got into work, I saw the headline that New York Jets coach Rex Ryan has named third-string quarterback Greg McElroy his starter. Mark Sanchez, who Jets fans thought would be the face of the franchise, is out in the Big Apple.

His up-and-down season, which have the Jets 6-8, has been his calling card. According to ESPN Stats & Information, since his rookie season in 2009, Sanchez is last in the league in passing yards, passing touchdowns, completion percentage and touchdown/interception ratio for quarterbacks with at least 1,800 attempts.

With Sanchez being benched for McElroy, it has to mean the former USC quarterback's days in New York are done.

In the words of Morrison, “This is the end, my only friend, the end.”
