After finishing his nine holes of tournament golf, Kody Fiser hitched a ride from his dad over to the back nine and joined up with sister Kayla and her group for the rest of her round.

Dad held a bush out of his way for his chip on No. 16, then held the flag on 17 as Kody rolled in a 20-footer for birdie on the short par-3 across the pond.

"It looked like it was going to miss it, and then it turned in," Kody said.

Kayla crushed her drive on 18 before running into a little trouble with the water protecting the green, but still broke 100 and carded the lowest girls score of the  day.

"Usually the first two holes I'm not very good, and then I start getting better, but I always die out at the end," Kayla said.

Wednesday's action at Mesa Del Sol Golf Course is a common occurrence at the Yuma Area Junior Golf Foundation tournaments, where the future Tiger Woods and Annika Sorenstam's of Yuma are doing their best to play like their heroes.

Kayla's 99 beat Josie Quiroz's 115 in the girls 13-14 division. Also playing in their threesome before Kody came along was Amber Owens (103), the only 15-18-year-old girl entered in Wednesday's tournament.

"I played well, but I've shot better," Kayla said. "I parred some of the holes on the front nine and I parred the hardest hole, which I was excited about."

And does Kayla mind when Kody tags along with the girls for a few holes?

"No," she said. "He's competition. We take lessons together and play on the weekends."

 The YAJGF and South West PGA/Antigua Tour events have reached the midpoint of their summer circuit and will each host three more events. The tournaments remain open to any junior golfers who wish to compete.

Kody and Kayla began playing the tournaments once school let out. Both are trying to qualify for the final summer tournament in Prescott.

Kody won the boys 11-12 division with a 50, two shots ahead of Jesus Quiroz and four up on Dawson Cox. Leann Domitrovitz was the only 11-12 girl and shot a 56.

Joey Pickels won the boys 15-18 group with a 76, followed by Vincent Wolfe at 84 and Brady McClellan at 92. Jacob Leevs was first of the 13-14 boys division with a 98, seven shots ahead of Jack Allen. In the 10-Under division, Logan Estes was in first place at 50 ahead of Jacob Stern's 58 and Jacob Cox's 60.

Twenty-one players participated in Wednesday's event. The next tournament is Monday at the Cocopah Golf Resort. Tee times begin at 7 a.m. and cost to enter is $10.
