Weather suspends Kofa-San Luis
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Kofa hitters hardly had a chance to get a bead on Javier Solano's fastball Friday.
The San Luis starter was clocked at 91 mph — up from his usual high 80s velocity — but the same wind gusts that added the extra zip forced the game to be halted with the Sidewinders ahead 1-0 with two outs in the bottom of the first.
"We had canopies over here on the side blowing over on to soccer fields and it was hard for our guys to see," San Luis coach Cesar Castillo said.
"It was in the interest of safety. I'm sure it will affect (the starting pitchers) because both of them threw 20-plus pitches but we'll see what happens."
The winner of Friday's matchup would have taken control of the region race. Now they will wipe the slate clean and do it again from scratch at 7 p.m. today at Joe Orduno Park.
"It's kind of a mulligan I guess," Kofa coach Richy Leon said. "You want to have the best opportunity, on both sides to play the game as best as you can and not to have the weather affect the game we play."
