Kofa girls basketball preview

Last year: 8-10 overall, 5-4 Gila Valley Region

Returning starters: Veronica Moreno, sr., SG; Amanda Garcia, sr., PG,; Jenna McKenna, jr., F; Mimi Wright, sr., F; Emily Crouch, jr., C

Key newcomers: Kacy Nady, fresh., C

Player to watch: Moreno, deadly from long range, averaged almost 17 points per game last year.

Kofa coach Eric Krepps' comments: "Everyone is back pretty much, and that's amazing. We've got our top eight back from last year, and with the addition of Kacy we're nine strong. We're pretty excited about the season."

The lowdown: Krepps said everyone on the team has improved. Garcia can score off the dribble and, at 5-foot-1, can "squeeze between players and get where no one else can. She's the quickest player I've ever had." A road trip for a summer tournament in Michigan brought the team together, and the addition of the 6-foot Nady, who "can jump out of the gym" has Krepps thinking the Kings can be a force in the region.
