On Deck: Lincecum highly deserving of second Cy Young
Comments 0 | Recommend 0I don't mean to be blunt, but no one was more deserving of this year's NL Cy Young than Tim Lincecum.
It isn't simply because he smoked 96-mph fastballs past batters for a season-high 261 strikeouts. He was a catalyst for the Giants and lit-up a team that made its first push for the playoffs since 2003.
Though his 15 wins is the lowest for a Cy Young winner, his run support was powered by a team that couldn't take a hit from some of the league's worst pitchers. Ground balls rarely made it out of the infield grass.
But Lincecum's success may cost San Francisco a dime or two. General Manager Brian Sabean will now have to hash out a better arbitration number for Lincecum's agent if he hopes to keep him in the Bay Area.
It's a dark and dank situation that may have the San Francisco ace rolling stacks of cash.
The Giants will of course be trying to weed out some of the high cost talent to make room for Lincecum and some more hitters to come in.
It's a situation that may leave a bad taste in each side's mouth. Anyone got the munchies?
