Matador volleyball wins, soccer heads to Mesa

Matadors top Coyotes
Despite a Game 2 hiccup, the Arizona Western volleyball team topped Chandler-Gilbert 25-21, 25-27, 25-20, 25-23 on Friday at The House.
The Matadors had early leads in the games they won. In Game 2, they trailed 9-3 but led 22-19 and 24-21 before losing.
Marisha Herbert and Paula Rosa each had 11 kills for the Matadors (9-2 overall, 5-1 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference) against the Coyotes (2-8, 2-4). Paula Rosa added 22 digs.

AWC heads to Mesa
The Arizona Western soccer team will put its five-match shutout streak on the line today against Mesa at John D. Riggs Stadium.
The Matadors (6-1 overall and ACCAC) haven't surrendered a goal since a 3-2 loss at Glendale Aug. 25. Last year, they beat the Thunderbirds (3-6 overall, 3-4 ACCAC) 2-1 at home and 3-1 in Mesa.
Francisco Ramirez has five goals for the Matadors this year, while Mario Soto leads the team with six.
