ON DECK: How to help local athletic programs
I started doing something this season and I highly suggest others follow suit.
Like any American, while I'm at a sporting event I like to go to the concession stand — maybe for a slice a pizza, maybe for a hot dog or maybe for some candy.
But recently, I've used the time where I'm about to get a little bit fatter to make a small donation to the respective school that I'm at. If something costs two dollars and I pay with a five, I ask for only two dollars back.
If something costs $1.25, I'll hand them two bucks and say keep the change.
With the economy the way it is, these athletes are fighting tooth and nail to get enough money to keep their programs alive.
Surely they'll be able to put the dollar I gave them to better use than I would.
Times are hard for a lot of people, which means times are hard for the Yuma county athletic programs. So next time you go to the concession stand, do every athlete a favor and say “Keep the change.”
