ON DECK: Let Kurt Busch go

OK, as they say in the world of NASCAR, “silly season” is in full swing.

 And so far the silliest thing to come up on the radar is the announcement that Kurt Busch is leaving Phoenix Racing and will climb behind the wheel of the Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet in 2013. He’s replacing Regan Smith.

I love Busch’s comments. After James Finch pretty much gave Busch a job, and a chance to restart his career at Phoenix Racing following Busch’s bipolar 2011 season, Busch says, “Furniture Row Racing has the commitment, talent and resources to compete at a high level in the Sprint Cup Series.”

Ouch. I guess that means Finch didn’t have all of that,too? If I were Finch, I’d tell Busch thanks for nothing, and dump him, now, not at the end of the season.

And if I were Finch, I’d be on the phone with A.J. Allmendinger, offering him a job, right now. Hello ‘Dinger, adios Kurt.
