ON DECK: Let Ochocinco keep his dollar

It's probably too early in the week to assume Chad Ochocinco's latest stunt will not go without punishment by the Bengals or the NFL.

But for the time being, I offer my congratulations to all parties for having a sense of humor.

Truth is, most of the time I agree with commissioner Goodell's "No Fun League" approach, keeping a short leash on touchdown celebrations, outrageous comments and other things that might be bad for business.

But Ochocinco's mock attempt to bribe officials with a $1 bill not overturn a call involving one of his receptions was pretty funny. It didn't appear rehearsed. It wasn't overtly self-promoting, and it didn't hinder the progress of the game.

Winning tends to bring out the best in people, and that's clearly the case with Ochocinco. The NFL has plenty of smart, mature and boring personalities. It needs to let some of its odd balls be themselves to keep things interesting.
