Outlaws tromp Scorps

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The Chico Outlaws scored just four less runs Tuesday than they did their whole series at Yuma, beating the Scorpions 13-0.

Yuma (18-19 first half, 28-46 overall) swept the series at Desert Sun Stadium before heading north to close the year. But Tuesday, the Scorpions offense struggled to come up with the big hit, leaving nine on base in a nine-hit effort. Eight Scorpions had hits in the game, but only Ismael Castro had a multihit effort.

Julio Santiago (1-7) gave up seven hits and seven earned runs in the loss. Normal setup man Dorian Castro gave up three earned in two innings. Down 10 in the eighth, closer Emiliano Fruto pitched an inning, giving up three unearned runs.

Mark Dibernardo (1-1) pitched seven shutout innings, while Austin Redwine tossed the last two for the Outlaws (12-21, 31-40).

The teams play at 7:05 p.m. today before the Scorps' season ends with their game Thursday.
