AWC - Pima men's basketball preview

Last game: AWC beat Yavapai 83-65 in Prescott Wednesday. The Aztecs lost 104-98 to Cochise at home.
Records: AWC (4-0 overall, 1-0 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference); Pima (1-2, 0-1 ACCAC)
Players to watch: Matador pointman Tommie Sanders will have his hands full tonight defending Pima's guard-heavy offense. ... Shannon Doctor and Tucson native Terrance Hill lead the Aztec scoring attack, both averaging more than 20 points per game. Doctor has already hit 12 3-pointers, while Hill has made 21 free throws.
AWC coach Kelly Green's comments: "I don't know hardly anything about them, but they're going to spread the floor and try to get our big guys out on the wings. We have to learn to play against other teams that don't have post players and make them play to us. I was telling Andre (Almeida) the other day we didn't recruit him to sit him on the bench when the other team doesn't have a player his size."
The lowdown: AWC jumped 10 spots in the latest NJCAA polls released on Tuesday, joining Scottsdale (No. 11 D-II) as the ACCAC's two ranked teams ... The Aztecs hit the road for the first time this season after two games against non-NJCAA schools and a close loss in their conference opener ... Pima head coach Karl Pieroway is one of five new coaches to the ACCAC and is working with nine freshmen on his 12-man roster. Only two of those players are listed as full-time forwards or post players ... AWC opened up conference play at home last year against the Aztecs, winning by 54 points. The Matadors scored at least 100 points in both of last season's wins against Pima ... Both teams will head to tournaments next week, the Aztecs scheduled for a Thanksgiving Day game against Lee in Odessa, Texas.
