ON DECK: Foul ball contest
They say every time you go to a baseball game you'll see something you've never seen before. With softball, it's no different.
Last night was opening night for high school softball and two Cibola hitters were being particularly picky about the pitches they wanted to hit fair.
The first marathon at-bat came from Alicia Young. The small lefty stood in the box and flipped pitch after pitch atop the third base dugout. She treated the plate appearance as if it was a carnival game. If it was, she would have been going home with a pretty big stuffed animal.
The next incident was catcher Hannah Lackey. She stood in the right-handed batters box and crushed riser after riser foul. These weren't Young's chip shots, these were bombs.
The funniest thing to me was that the exact same scenario came into play the next time these two were up to bat. They wore out that pitcher and it looks like it worked as they went on to beat Kofa 6-2.
