ON DECK: Drivers from all over coming to the Cocopah Speedway

Just about the only other place you can find license plates from 10 or more states and Canada gathered in one place right now would be one of Yuma’s RV parks.

But that’s not the case this weekend when race car drivers from, and I’m not kidding, 10 states and Canada, not to mention Arizona, converge on Cocopah Speedway for the IMCA Modified Winter Nationals presented by Sun Graphics.

For the record, Iowa unofficially leads the parade to Yuma with nine cars from the Hawkeye State expected to be in the lineup.

The program unfolds Friday night with a full show, and then everyone comes back Saturday for an encore.

Of course, if anyone wants to get up close and personal with the drivers and get an autograph or two, the Fanfest Car Show is scheduled tonight (6 p.m.) at the track. And it’s free. See you there!
