Hook N Slice: 'Swinging for Fun' to benefit Boys and Girls Club
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The annual “Swinging for Fun” golf tournament to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Yuma will be played on Friday, Jan. 25, at the Yuma Country Club with registration scheduled for 7 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The entry fee of $125 includes green and cart fees, lunch after play, mulligans, team skins game, a golf shirt and refreshments.
There will be a blind draw for teams and the tournament format is a four-person scramble with prizes for any hole-in-one, closest to the pin on a par three, and for the longest drive.

The deadline for sponsor and player entry is 5 p.m. on Jan. 18.
- Richard Hassall was the A-Flight gross winner in the Cocopah Men’s Club tournament last Monday morning with Ed McDaniel winning second place gross. The net winner was Jerry Melissa with Larry Perry taking second net.
The remaining four flight gross and net winners were: Bob Wilson and Maurice Proctor, Harry Marsh and Craig Lightner, Dan Sexsmith and George Villaseno, and Sewell Reynolds and Bob Schindler.
- Bob Coffey teamed with Dave Lee, Richard Parker and Jonathan Lockard to win first place in the Las Barrancas men’s 18-hole league play on Thursday morning. Second place went to the team of J. Rankin, Al Pittaman and Larry Nicholson.
- Marlene and Chuck Wallace teamed with Jane and Dick Ekleberry to win first place in the Las Barrancas couples league on Friday morning. Second place went to Carol and Waynelle Halden and Geri and Jim Forbes.
- Long Driving Fern Devereaux was the top winner in the A-Flight of the Mesa del Sol WGA “Mutt and Jeff” play on Thursday morning with a 33.5, while Joan Keessay and Connie Butler tied for second place at 34.5.
Rita Droog and Ruth Kennedy were tied for first place in the B-Flight with Dee Dee Reynolds winning the C-Flight.
- Bev Barker, Barb Thomas, Sally Hogan, Marlene Hardy and Sandy Wade were the gross winners in the Cocopah Bend AWGA “Blind Nine” tournament on Wednesday morning. First place net went to the team of Eva Mendel, Nadia Canart, Lynn Oehmann, Gretchen Ross and Judy Planck.
- Hwasil Hook shot a gross score of 88 and a net 72 to win first place in the Country Club WGA A Flight play on Saturday morning. Second place went to Senait Smythe at 79.
The B-Flight winner was Dianne McGrath with a 71, with Alice Land taking second at 80.
- Hobo Amick was the top gross winner in the Desert Hills Hustlers play on Wednesday morning with Gerry McMahan winning second and Joe Gaudet was the third place winner. First place net went to leo Pelletier with Robbie Harris winning second net.
The skin winners were Jim McElroy, Hobo Amick, Dave Belcher, Harley Anderson, Lynn Thomas, Leo Pelletier and Jim Duncan.
- Carol Foye teamed with Eileen Tanner, Evelyn Mills and Patt Holland for a team score of 83 to win the Country Club WGA tournament on Thursday morning. Second place went to the team of Deb Elias, Kay Jackson and Betty Frauenfelder one stroke back.
Close to the pin on hole eight went to Rossana Conley with Velma Harrison winning close to the pin on hole 17.
- Tom Mozley, Leo Kossey, Whitney A. Graham, Phil Gamache and Neal Foreman teamed for 99 pro-power points to win the “Krogman Follies” play on Wednesday morning at the Mesa del Sol Golf Course. Two strokes back for second place was the team of John Droog, Roger Brown, Jim Aletto, Ronald Jackson and Donald Graham.
- The annual “Super Golf Bowl” tournament will be played at the Coyote Wash Golf Course on the Jan. 25-27. The tournament will feature a “Shamble” format, “Add ’Em Up” format, and Super Bowl Pools.
