Former Cibola soccer player to compete on US national team
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Today, he's a forward on the Men's Under-23 U.S. National Team as it opens play in the 2008 Confederation of North and Central American and Caribbean Football (CONCACAF) Men’s Under-23 Championship, where the top two teams qualify for the Olympics in Beijing.
Barrett just played one year for the Raiders before moving to Beaverton, Ore. His mother was with the Marines and spent less than three years in Yuma.
He played for UCLA, where he earned the Pac-10 freshman of the year honors before becoming the third pick in the 2005 MLS draft, selected by the Chicago Fire.
He has scored 13 goals in 66 career games with the Fire. Barrett also has experience on U.S. National Teams. In the 2005 U-20 FIFA World Cup, he scored one of three U.S. goals.
The U.S. opens the CONCACAF Olympic qualifier today against Cuba at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa at 5 p.m. on Fox Soccer Channel.
Barrett was also quarterback for Cibola and played on a local traveling team before moving to Oregon.
