Walks, errors prove costly as Yuma falls to Roadrunners
The Yuma Scorpions took the lead in the bottom of the second but didn't hold onto it for long.
The Arizona Roadrunners topped the Scorps 12-3 on Wednesday at Desert Sun Stadium.
The Scorps commited five errors in the game, two of which came in the top of the sixth. The errors allowed the Roadrunners to have four players cross the plate, giving them a 9-3 lead at that point.
Yuma's starting pitcher, Vincent Dailey, lasted four innings in which he gave up three hits, two runs and four walks.
Arizona's Kent Worthington struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win for the Roadrunners.
Blake Shaffer went 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs for Arizona. Brian Loard was 3 for 5 with two RBIs while Ryan Doheny went 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs for the Roadrunners.
Ryan Acevedo went 2 for 2 for the Scorps with a hit and a run scored.
In other Winter League action, San Diego topped Somerton 6-1 on Wednesday. San Diego pitcher Sean Stewart threw a complete game, giving up only four hits, one run, three walks and three strikeouts. Chad Bisnette went 1 for 2 with a hit, a run scored and two RBIs.
Canada edged Saskachewan 6-5, while Long Beach topped Blythe 8-1. The score of the Calexico-San Luis game was not available at presstime.
