Red Sox sign Rodriguez
The Scorpions' season may be over, but Reynaldo Rodriguez won't get to enjoy the down time. Two weeks after being named the Golden Baseball League Rookie of the Year, Rodriguez had his contract acquired by the Boston Red Sox and will likely be assigned to the team's farm system.
Rodriguez batted .335 last season for the Scorpions and drove in 48 RBIs through 74 games. His six triples ranked second in the GBL. He also tallied 18 stolen bases and six home runs.
This will be Rodriguez's second stint with a major league organization. Rodriguez signed with Boston's rival, the New York Yankees, back in 2006 and was assigned to the Dominican Summer League as a catcher where he won the batting title and stolen base crown.
After being promoted to the minor leagues, Rodriguez struggled with injuries and was released by New York after playing eight games in the Gulf Coast League.
Rodriguez then joined the Colombian Winter League where he claimed another batting title, averaging .378, with the Monteria Leones. He was named the CPBL Most Valuable Player in Feb. 2009.
