Players to watch: April Marquez went 6 for 8 with six RBIs in the doubleheader against the Roughriders in Yuma on Feb. 12, which the Matadors swept. ... Hannah Hill has slugged seven homers for the Roughriders this year.
The lowdown: The Matadors had never swept the Roughriders until last month, winning 6-5 and 14-10 in Yuma. This time, they’re reeling heading into the game after a sweep at the hands of Scottsdale on Tuesday. ... Briana VanSickle, who had given up one hit in her prior three outings, was tagged for five earned runs and eight hits against the Artichokes. She’s scheduled for the Game 2 start today. ... AWC hasn’t won a regular season game in Prescott since 2009. ... The Roughriders enter today three games behind AWC for the third and final NJCAA Region I Division I playoff spot.

Players to watch: Brandon Anderson takes his 6-0 record to the hill for AWC in Game 1. He has a 1.52 ERA, behind only Travis Garcia-Perreira’s 1.50 on the team. ... Tyler Krause is hitting .405 for the Pumas.
The lowdown: The loss to Phoenix was the first time the Matadors lost to the Bears since 2005. ... Paradise Valley is 6-3 all time against the Matadors, but AWC won the last matchup — a non-conference game Feb. 6 in Phoenix. Anderson notched the win, pitching three shutout innings in the Matadors’ 12-1 win.
