Prep baseball roundup: March 10
Four errors in the second inning doomed Yuma Catholic on Thursday in a 5-4 loss to Holtville in the Shamrock Classic opener.
The Shamrocks took a three-run lead in the first then knotted the game at 4-4 in the second. Holtville got its final run in the fifth off starter Wade McBride, who allowed just one earned run in the game. He also hit a two-run triple.
Rocky Rutherford was 2-for-3 for YC.
The Shamrocks play Show Low at noon today followed by Northwest Christian at 4 p.m.
San Luis rolls in opener
San Luis pounded El Centro-Southwest 12-2 on Thursday, the Sidewinders’ first game in the Cibola Baseball Classic.
Leonardo Gastelum picked up the win for the Sidewinders, not allowing an earned run. Benito Garcia went 3-for-4, while Antonio Mendoza, Alejandro Aguilar and Abdiel Zavala had two hits each.
The Sidewinders wrap pool play today against Kofa, then play a bracket game later in the day.
