Scorpions let one slip away
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Sonora Pilots held leads of 6-0 and 11-5, gave up 7 runs to trail by a run, then came back with two runs in the top of the ninth to win 13-12 over the Yuma Scorpions in a wild game at Desert Sun Stadium Saturday night.
Brandon Flythe led off the top of the ninth with an infield hit, stole second base, and was singled home by Whitney Pierce. Andrew Barbaro then doubled Pierce in with the winning run. Both Pierce and Barbaro had three hits in the game.
The Yuma seven run bottom of the seventh featured a 2 run homer by left fielder Randy Ditzer and six other Scorpion hits. Shortstop Pat Cummins drove in three runs, one in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Dwayne Levels, the former Oklahoma State and Cincinnati Bengals linebacker trying to earn a professional baseball job, pitched the first five innings for the Sonora team, allowing four runs on four hits.
Billy Shea pitched the scoreless bottom of the ninth to get the save for the Pilots.
