Scorpions end 10-game skid

Apparently 10 was enough for the Yuma Scorpions.

The Scorpions reached double figures for the second game in a row, but this time it was actually enough for an 11-3 win over Edmonton on Wednesday, snapping a 10-game losing streak.

James Garcia (3-1) lowered his ERA to 3.66 by pitching eight strong innings, allowing six hits and one earned run. His strong performance came a night after Gilbert De La Vara was shelled for nine earned runs in 3 2/3 innings in a 14-11 loss. Also in that Tuesday game, Darryl Arreola, who pitched for Yuma last year, also allowed nine runs in 3 2/3 innings.

On Wednesday, Garcia had no such struggles, and neither did the offense. The Scorpions (31-47) pounded out 16 hits, including four from Jared McDonald and three each from Carlos Leon and Zach Larsen. McDonald drove in six runs.

Yuma scored three in the third, then after the Capitals (47-29) made it 3-2 after three, the Scorpions had three runs in the fourth and fifth to break the game open.

On Tuesday, the Capitals opened a 9-3 lead early, but Yuma tied it in the fourth. Gerardo Villa and Arnoldo Ponce each had two-run singles in the innings.

But Edmonton scored two runs in the bottom of the inning and never trailed again.
