LOCAL GLANCE (Jan. 12): Wrestling, Girls Basketball, Boys Soccer
Five Yuma Catholic wrestler went undefeated as the Shamrocks won three duals Saturday in Parker.
The Shamrocks topped Rover Valley 45-27, Parker 37-33 and Blythe-Palo Verde 42-30.
Tommy Hernandez (106), Andy Determan (154), Brandon Moreno (162), Grady Eldridge (172) and Alex Varela (heavyweight) went 3-0 for the Shamrocks.
The Shamrocks are hosting a tournament Saturday, with the varsity squads from San Pasqual and Antelope expected to compete along with the junior varsity teams from the five YUHSD schools. The meet starts at 10 a.m.
Hawks place seven at Ironwood Ridge
Gila Ridge went 4-1 at the Ironwood Ridge tournament Saturday, placing seven wrestlers in the top two.
Colt Collier (113), Austin Gerber (120), Curtis Cox (126), Isaac Sang (152), Sam Kuckuk (170) and Kainoa Renaud (220) all earned second place while Nathan Mendizio (106) went 5-0 on the day earning first place.
The host school Ironwood Ridge is the defending state champion and was Gila Ridge's only loss.
“It was a good day,” said Gila Ridge coach David King. “It was nice to come here and be against the returning state champion Ironwood Ridge. I'd like to have caught them, but we still have the rest of the year to catch up with them.”
Camarillo fourth at Pack Invitational
Kofa's Aaron Camarillo went 7-3 and finished in fourth place in 138-pounds at the Pack Invitational at Centennial High School.
Vince Nunez (113) went 6-3 but didn't medal.

San Luis stomps Lake Havasu
San Luis bounced back after two tough losses to Cibola and Kofa earlier in the week to earn a 12-0 victory over Lake Havasu Saturday.
The Sidewinders had three players who scored multiple goals including two hat tricks from Leo Moreno and Andres Elizalde and two goals from Marlon Atondo. Atondo also had five assists on the day.
Elizalde has been out most of the year with an injury and San Luis coach Ian McDougall is glad to have him back on an otherwise depleted roster.
“You know it's huge,” McDougall said. “I think he's questionably one of the top two or three players in the Yuma County area. He's hasn't been healthy all season and we're hoping maybe for the last two weeks as we push into state having him back is only going to make us better. I mean a lot better as a team.”
San Luis plays El Centro-Central at home at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL
San Pasqual topples Sequoia
Ceara Ingraham lead San Pasqual with 22 points and 10 rebounds in the Warriors 54-36 win over Sequoia Charter.
Bobbyonah Bohanon contributed 12 points and five rebounds.
“Basically the game was close in the first half,” San Pasqual coach Patricia Malvido said. “We just couldn't pull away.”
They pulled away in the second half after going on a 21-6 run.
