PREP BASEBALL

Yuma Catholic thrashes San Pasqual

Joey Miranda had five hits, five RBIs, two doubles and a home run on the day as Yuma Catholic swept a doubleheader from San Pasqual on Tuesday, 18-0 and 19-0.

Miranda (2-0) picked up the win in Game 2. Jaime Montanez was 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs, while Sam Atiyeh was 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

Atiyeh (3-0) notched the Game 1 win and hit a solo home run. Keone Mills also had a home run and two RBIs in a 3 for 3 day.

San Luis edges Kofa

For the second time this season, the San Luis baseball team defeated Kofa.

The Sidewinders shut out the Kings 2-0 on Tuesday.

In the previous regular season meeting between the teams, San Luis won 3-1.

Gila Ridge tops Mohave

Marco Jaime pitched four innings of relief as Gila Ridge topped Mohave 7-1 on Tuesday.

Jaime added an RBI and a triple. Hayato Johnson and Austin Browning each went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Cibola beats Yuma High

Ronnie Flores struck out seven Criminals in five inning of work leading the Raiders to a 12-2 win Tuesday afternoon.

Cibola broke the game open with a seven-run fourth inning, giving Flores plenty of cushion. Rogelio Varela went 3 for 3 with two runs and four RBIs.

Three other Raiders had multi-hit days including Tim Frost, Zebastian Valenzuela and Oscar Elizarraras who all went 2 for 3.

PREP SOFTBALL

Yuma Catholic sweeps San Pasqual

Gabrielle Rowlinson pitched two no-hitters Tuesday as Yuma Catholic swept San Pasqual 15-0 and 1-71 on Tuesday in a pair of three-inning games.

Janell Orozco scored six runs in the two games. Amanda Milnick stole five bases on the day and had two RBIs and scored three times in Game 2.

Rowlinson struck out seven batters in each game. Stephanie Vandervoort scored three times in Game 1.

PREP TENNIS

Yuma High boys sweep Kofa

Ricardo Aruz rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Christian Galindo at No. 1 singles as the Yuma High boys tennis team beat Kofa 6-0, 6-1 on Tuesday.

Rajinder Singh Kaila (6-1, 6-0), Jose Pedroza (6-2, 6-4), Miguel Alcantar (6-2, 6-1), Oscar Cordoba (6-0, 6-4) and Christian Raya (6-0, 6-1) picked up singles wins.

Cibola boys top Central

Brett Boyer rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win as Cibola beat El Centro-Central 7-2 on Tuesday.

Abijay Musergesan, Caleb Villapuda and Manasag Zbazbame picked up singles wins for the Raiders as well. The Raiders swept the doubles matches to secure the win.

Cibola girls blank San Luis

Leslie Cruz-Rivera, Amrutha Doniparthi and Shelby Chambless all recorded straight set victories for Cibola as the Raiders beat San Luis 9-0 on Tuesday.

Kim Harris, Sarah Haws and Hannah Kirkham picked up singles wins as well for the Raiders.

Gila Ridge girls edge Havasu

Allie Cooke and Breanna Sparks both lost their singles matches Monday against Lake Havasu, but the Gila Ridge No. 3 doubles duo provided the key to the Hawks' 5-4 win.

Cooke and Sparks won the tie-breaker 7-5 to win the match 9-8.

“I am very proud of these girls for not giving up and staying positive and being supportive of each other,” coach Becky Spencer said.

Katlyn Jones, Tayler McKenna and Alexis Van Gelder picked up singles wins for the Hawks. McKenna and Jones trailed their doubles match 6-2 but won the next six games for the win.
