ON DECK: AIA needs to fix their system
Now I'm not an athletic director, but after having a few conversations with ADs and coaches lately, I'm not sure if I ever would want to be one.
Apparently the AIA relies on a computer to schedule sporting events in a fair way. Well, it's not doing a very good job.
Instead, it's causing a huge headache for Yuma-area ADs trying to find a balance between sports and school.
Traveling to their games costs athletes time out of school and high transportation bills for the school.
It might just be my opinion, but it seems like the Yuma schools are getting the small end of the stick on this one.
Case in point: Cibola's boys basketball team was supposed to be the “home” team at sectionals. They had to travel three hours to play. Their opponent? About 25 minutes.
There's got to be a better way to schedule these events fairly for everyone.
