Rodriguez scores five goals for Yuma High
The Yuma High girls soccer team got a huge night from Daisy Rodriguez and beat Lake Havasu 6-0 on Thursday.
Rodriguez recorded five goals, and the Criminals (1-0) got another goal from Daniela Angula.
“My girls played awesome,” Yuma High coach Tom Coxson said. “They communicated beautifully.”
Kofa shuts out San Luis
It seemed like everybody was scoring for the Kofa girls soccer team.
Seven different players scored as the Kings shut out San Luis 8-0 on Thursday at home.
Leticia Garcia was the only player for the Kings (1-0) with multiple goals. Dania Gomez, Abigail Rosales and Kimberly Uriarte each had two assists.
“We were a little nervous but we got a few goals early,” Kofa coach Marisela Velasquez said. “It's nice to see them share the wealth and put it away.”
Shamrocks hang on in Buckeye
Morgan Frank scored a pair of goals in the first half, and the Yuma Catholic girls soccer team hung on to win 3-2 at Buckeye on Thursday.
Freshman Karla Navarro added the other Shamrock (1-1) goal, and freshman goalkeeper Aryza Olague recorded 11 saves.
“(Olague) played a heck of a game,” Shamrock coach Jesus Quintana said.
Cibola routs Gila Ridge
Sheridan Smith scored the lone Gila Ridge goal in a 6-1 loss to Cibola on Thursday.
Smith's goal came with 30 seconds left in the game.
“I like that we didn't quit. It shows character,” first-year Gila Ridge coach Jon Gronbach said. “We didn't lose tonight from a lack of effort. We played hard, just not smart.”
PREP BOYS BASKETBALL
Raiders crush Parker
Four players finished in double-figures as the Cibola boys basketball team cruised past Parker 86-48 on Thursday at home.
Steven Loucks led the way with 20 points while Jordan Mitchell added 16 points, six assists and five steals and Brett Boyer and T.J. Smith each added 12. Boyer also had a team-high six rebounds for the Raiders, who improved to 2-0.
“We put them down right away and kept them down,” Cibola coach Tim Keller said.
YC rolls in Williams opener
Matt Pistone scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Yuma Catholic to a 62-33 win over Joseph City Thursday in the first pool play game of the Williams Tournament.
Carter Rodriguez scored 13 points and dished out eight assists. Jason Reid, a transfer from Yuma High, had 10 points and six rebounds.
The Shamrocks play a pair of pool play games today against Seligman and Williams.
PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL
Shamrocks crush Mogollon
Madison Brazeel outscored Mogollon single-handedly in Yuma Catholic's 51-24 win Thursday to open pool play in the Williams Tournament.
Brazeel scored 28 while Mary Terkelsen scored 10 to go with 12 rebounds.
The Shamrocks wrap pool play today against Seligman and Williams.
