Scorpions fall at St. George
Javier Oritz, by Scorpions standards, was cruising through six innings Wednesday at St. George.
Then the Yuma starter crashed in the sixth.
The Roadrunners scored five times of Ortiz in the frame and six total, taking the lead in an 11-6 win over the Scorpions, their fifth win in six games to start the year against Yuma.
The Scorpions led 6-5 heading into the bottom the seventh with Ortiz on the mound, but we was chased without recording an out. Reliever Dorian Castro was chased after 2/3 of an inning and gave up two more runs. Ronald Ramirez finished the game without giving up a run.
Yuma (1-5) had its most consistent offensive game, and leading at three different points in the back-and-forth game. Carlos Villalobos' lone hit was a home run for the Scorpions, while Jhonatan Lozada went 3-for-4.
Carlos Arroyo had two hits for Yuma.
The series concludes at 6:05 p.m. today. The Scorpions are off this weekend before taking on defending Northern Division champion Calgary (6-1) at 7:05 p.m. Monday at Desert Sun Stadium.
