HOOK 'N SLICE: Hart, Norred win three-club scramble


The annual “Toughest Day In Golf” individual medal play gross and net score golf tournament will be played at the Mesa Del Sol Golf Course on Sunday, Sept. 21 with tee times starting at sunrise through 4 p.m. The $31 entry fee includes green and cart fees, and the skins game. The course will be played from the black tee boxes with the fairways shaved and the roughs will be about four inches and the pins will be set in extremely difficult positions on the greens. The lowest gross score recorded in the past three years was a one over par 73. Players may contact the pro shop at 342-1283 for entry or additional information.

The next two person best ball gross and net score “DELI” will be played at the Coyote Wash Golf Course in Wellton on Saturday, Oct. 4 and 5 with tee times starting at 9:30 a.m. Players may contact golf professional John Baas at 920-0861 or Richie Valenzuela at 580-0890 for entry or additional information.

Jerry Crump, Scott Covey, Jeff Carbajal and Kody Crump posted a net score of 56.10 to win The annual Marine Corps League, Territorial Detachment #635, benefit scramble Honoring J.J. Sanphy, played at the Mesa Del Sol Golf Course on Saturday morning. Second place went to the team of Mike Catron, J. Ruke, G. Davis, and Sean Toomey with a 56.60. Bill and Phil Fitzgerald teamed with Shane Massie and Brant Norred for a 57.20 which was good for third place.

Harry Hart teamed with Randy Norred for a “three club scrambling” gross score of three under par 33 to win the weekly twilight league play at Mesa Del Sol on Thursday afternoon. First place net went to the team of Chuck Fincher and Gary Sletten with a 26.50 with Josh Wood and Jay Jordan winning second net at 29.50.

Connie Chapman posted 18 pro power points to win first place in the DHWGA weekly play on Tuesday morning played at the Desert Hills Golf Course. Second place went to Joyce Kennedy with 17 points and Sue Janney was the third place winner with 15 points. Sue Henson and Sue Gibson were tied for fourth place with 14 points each. The skill shot winners were Connie Chapman, Debbie Holscher and Gloria Gentry.

Ed Luterbach, Jim Harms, Gordy Martinelli, and Lori Sohler teamed for a scrambling gross score of 37 to win the Moose Lodge nine-hole tournament played at Mesa Del Sol on Tuesday morning. Second place went to the team of Mike Ellis, Butch Searsey, Linda Dunn and Sharon Boyer with a 38.

The Yuma Flames Girls Fast Pitch Softball team fundraiser, two person scramble, will be played at the Coyote Links Golf Course in Wellton on Saturday, Oct. 11 with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The $80 per person entry fee includes green and cart fees, a cookout and the prize fund for the winning teams.
The Yuma Flames are currently an age 14 and under girl’s fast pitch traveling softball team that plans to move up to age 16 years and under next season. The Flames will use the funds from this benefit golf tournament to purchase uniforms, game equipment and help with the traveling expenses. The annual Foothills Optimist Club “Swing For Youth Scramble Tournament” will be played at the Mesa Del Sol Golf Course on Nov. 8 with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Players and sponsors may contact Sandy Williams at 342-3338 for entry or additional information.
