ON DECK: RGIII
Professional athletes are extremely competitive.
It's partly what makes them the best athletes in the world.
Robert Griffin III has dealt with health issues — coming from the hits his “smaller” body took — all season and he came into the game wearing an industrial strength knee brace. I watched as he pulled the ball and hobbled his way nine yards to the sidelines. He looked like one of the older guys at a pick-up basketball game.
Meanwhile, Kirk Cousins, who had played well during his time this season, was standing on the sidelines. In the postgame press conference, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said that Griffin III told him that he wanted to play. Shanahan deflected the blame that should go to him for putting his prized quarterback in serious harm's way when he was already clearly hurt.
It's like somebody that's clearly drunk saying they're fine to drive — you still take away their keys.
Now I just hope there isn't any long-term damage in RGIII's golden legs.
