Matadors draw another draw with Phoenix College

October 15, 2008 - 10:15 PM

The second verse of AWC's series with Phoenix College was the same as the first, and there's still not a winner.

The Matadors and Bears finished in a 2-2 tie Wednesday for the second time this season.

AWC had a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals from Fernando Rodriguez, playing up front in place of suspended forward Vinny Muscarella. The Bears (6-6-3, 6-6-3 ACCAC) tied the game with two goals within two minutes of each other - both by Kofa High alums Cesar Beltran and Hazael Perez - but Matador head coach Kenny Dale was still pleased with goalkeeper Manuel Lugo.

"The scorekeeper had Manuel with four saves, but I think he had a lot more than that," Dale said. "He was definitely the man of the match, and played very well."

The game was delayed for 30 minutes after PC's Chris Singer  collided with Eddie Ponce and was taken to the hospital for a neck injury.

AWC (9-6-2, 7-6-2 ACCAC) is at home Saturday to play No. 6 Pima.
