Bourguignon wins SWPGA event in playoff

Grady Bourguignon shot an even-par 72 to tie for the lead with Sean Buchanan and nearly holed out for eagle on the fourth hole of a sudden-death playoff to win the Southwest PGA Antigua Junior Tour Championship on Wednesday at Antelope Hills Golf Course in Prescott.

Bourguignon, playing in the boys 13-14 championship, birdied the 15th and 16th holes to get back to even par on the round and force the playoff. Buchanan began the day with a two-shot lead and shot 74 Wednesday.

The two junior golfers birdied the par-5 18th hole to start the playoff, then pared the par-4 first hole.

Bourguignon followed with a shot that landed inches from the hole, spun back, clipped the cup and came to rest two inches away for a tap-in birdie.

It is Bourguignon's second win in six appearances at the championships.

Mieke Canan shot a 1-over 73 to finish in third place. Her two-day total 149 was five shots behind Nicole Tucker, who closed the day with a 69. Canan was at two under par through the front nine.
