Antelope wrestling preview
Last year: 27-9
Returning 1A/2A state qualifiers: Johnny Salcido (215 or heavyweight) state qualifier two years ago who missed regionals in 2008-09 due to an injury; senior Todd Honnaker (152), sophomore Kurtis Skouzen (140); junior Colt Pelfrey two-time qualifer (135); junior Hugo Saborria (119); and junior Ricardo Ruiz (125).
Key newcomers: Coach not ready to mention any at this time.
Rams coach Rick St. Clair's comments: "I got some real good young kids. The key with those is because they are inexperienced, they are going to lose some matches they would win if they had two to three years of experience. A bunch of young kids that look like in the future could be halfway decent. Only two kids that are seniors - one is really raw. We are going to be a work in progress."
The lowdown: A healthy Salcido should contend for a state title. If Kurtis Skouzen is going to be one of the state’s elite, sophomore year is usually when it happens. Antelope has only six returners but that should be enough to keep it in most duals and tournaments as well. Another 25-win season is not out of the question.
