ON DECK: Blackout black eye

The infamous blackout will forever ruin this Super Bowl for me. Not because of the delay, or how it affected the game, but because of the lazy analysis it inspired.

Jim Nantz and Phil Simms told me over and over again how the power outage helped surge a lifeless 49er team and how it deflated an other wise rolling Ravens team.

It was power outage this, blackout that. Could it possibly be that the 49ers were able to get something going because, I don't know, they are a good football team? They certainly showed that in the NFC Championship game, coming back from a 17-point deficit to beat the Falcons.

But no, it's all about this trivial event that paused the Super Bowl, altering the course of history forever.

Are you really trying to tell me that just because players have to jog around for a few minutes, this could really affect the Super Bowl? These are professionals, not third-graders. I think they can handle a little distraction without it affecting their play.
