PREP SOFTBALL
Cibola loses to Xavier
The Cibola softball team kept things close in its opener at the Xavier tournament on Thursday before a four-run inning doomed the Raiders against the host school.
The Raiders gave up four unearned runs in that inning in a 10-3 loss.
“They are a very good hitting team and we hung in there with them until that one inning,” coach Shelly Baumann said. “I'm proud of them for that.”
Bethany Olea had a 2 for 3 day with a pair of doubles and an RBI as the only Raider with a multihit game. Alexis Evans had a hit and drove in two runs.
PREP GIRLS SOCCER
Two Kings make 1st team
Kofa forward Cinthya Samaniego and defender Nicole Hartman made the Division I Section I First Team, announced Wednesday.
Lecitia Casillas, Abigail Rosales and Kimberly Uriarte were Kofa's second-team selections and coach Marisela Velasquez was the coach of the year.
Hartman and Kofa goalie Danielle Torres earned honorable mention on the all-state team for Division I, as did Cibola midfielder Karina Cain. Forward Karla Navarro and midfielder Morgan Frank from Yuma Catholic earned honorable mention on the Division III team.

Yuma girls top Antelope
The Yuma High girls tennis team topped Antelope 6-3 on Thursday.
Lupe Izaguirre (6-0, 6-2), Joanna Pratt (6-4, 6-4) and Shanna Skousen (6-1, 8-6) got the wins for the Rams.
Gila Ridge girls sweep San Luis
Gila Ridge recorded a 9-0 sweep of San Luis on Tuesday.
Katlyn Jones (6-1, 6-1), Taylor McKenna (6-0, 6-1), Alexis Van Gelder (6-1, 6-0), Michala Weik (6-2, 6-0), Breanna Sparks (6-1, 6-1) and Marin Rodgerson (6-1, 6-1) picked up singles wins. At doubles, Jones and McKenna (8-0), Van Gelder and Weik (8-2) and Sparks and Rodgerson (8-1) notched victories.
