ON DECK: Watching as a Seahawks fan

Unlike fellow Yuma Sun reporter Jesse Severson, I do have a team for the replacement refs to blow calls for (and against). Fortunately for me, that team happens to be the Seattle Seahawks.

I agree, like most of the national media does, that these referees are simply in over their heads. The blame lies on the commissioner’s desk, not in the hands of these lingerie officials.

One moment stood out as an absolute spotlight of how terrified these officials must be.

If you look closely, the official who made the touchdown signal isn’t quick to pull the trigger. He stares at the back judge and waits for him to make the first move. When he sees the back judge raise his hands, he thinks, “All right cool, we’re calling this a touchdown? Sounds good.”

As he raises his arms in what he thinks is a unanimous decision, I can only imagine the sheer terror he felt when he saw the back judge give the exact opposite call.
