ON DECK: Another No. 1 bites the dust
They say heavy is the head that wears the crown.
Well, right now it looks like nobody in college basketball wants anything to do with the throne.
For the fifth straight week, the No. 1 ranked men's team has lost – the latest coming when Indiana lost to unranked Illinois. That's an Illinois team that came into the game 2-7 – yes, 2-7! – in the Big Ten.
I remember a few years back when it seemed that the No. 2 ranking in college football was a curse – like being the drummer for Spinal Tap.
We're about a month away from the regular season being over, which means teams will be playing to be the favorite in my March Madness bracket. But right now, there isn't a team I would feel confident putting into the Final Four. Indiana? Michigan? Duke? Nobody jumps out to me this year.
College basketball is a crazy world, and this year is no different. For the fifth time in as many weeks, another No. 1 bites the dust.
