ON DECK: Wild weekend in college football
Florida State, LSU and Georgia were standing right behind the velvet rope.
All they needed to do — as the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 teams in the country — was wait patiently and they could have a chance to get into the most exciting party in college football.
Instead, they said something derogatory to the bouncer and just like that, their chances were gone.
In one fateful Saturday, three of the top five teams in the country found themselves at the back of the line because of a loss to North Carolina State, Florida and South Carolina — like dominos tumbling over.
More teams will fall, with three SEC teams in the top 4, and that's what makes college football so great — one bad week could cost you a chance at the biggest game of all.
But with a loss this early, a team can patiently wait for the other teams to fall and the next thing they know, the bouncer's opening that velvet rope for them.
