Sun column plugs Sun podcast
Love sports and hate reading? Then The Sun has just the thing to fill your athletic addiction.
Although, if the first sentence is true you probably aren’t reading this, but I’m feeling lucky that you’re in a word-digesting mood today. Or maybe you’re on the John and this happens to be the only reading material on the bathroom floor. Perhaps a friend will carry on the message for those not looking to read.
Whatever the case, fellow sports writer Edward Carifio and yours truly have combined our sports knowledge and started producing podcasts for those visiting www.yumasun.com. Our show, titled the Creatively Titled Sports Podcast, covers all the bases with local and national sports news in an easy to digest 20-30 minute, conversational presentation.
For those unaware of the semi-new technology, a podcast is basically recorded radio that can be downloaded or streamed and listened to whenever the listener wants.
So unlike radio, if you miss the single broadcast you can go to the Interwebs and find the audio when you want on your time. You can listen to the podcast straight off a Web browser or download the file and upload it to any type of MP3 player and take it with you to listen to at the gym, in your car or on a walk.
With the nerd talk out of the way, let me tell you what you can expect from the Creatively Titled Sports Podcast. Not only will we hit the big stories of the week, but the thoughts flow freely, sometimes too spontaneously to be honest, on local topics like prep baseball, which Yuma athletes are vying for the illustrious Sun/Yuma Rotary Club Player of the Year title and more AIA power point hot talk than you could ever imagine.
Don’t anticipate bland, stat-packed filler, as we go for topics and ideas you can’t find in a box score. Be ready for off-the-cuff, comedy-laced discussions that don’t shy away from derailing into off-topic tangential rants and diatribes to keep the atmosphere light and easy on the ears (that is, if two grown men screaming at one another and taking every chance to belittle the other’s point is easy on your ears).
We’ve already recorded three episodes that can be found in the sports tab on The Sun’s Web site and are aiming to making two a week. The newest episode should be up on the site by this evening and include our first special guest. For those that have listened or plan on listening to future episodes, feel free to get interactive by sending e-mails to either of us with questions, comments or any topics you’d like to hear addressed on the show. You might even be lucky enough to get some free swag like a Sun windbreaker*.
I feel like an entire column is enough of a plug and will garner at least some interest for The Sun’s newest Web initiative, so I hope anyone that has made it this far will give the show a chance. Oh, and did I mention the show was free?
*We don’t actually have any swag or windbreakers to send out, just quality sports talk.
