ON DECK: NFL ties

A tie? There's no ties in football! Wait a minute...yes there are.

Every few years we get one of these wacky instances where two teams can't get past the 40-yard line and the game ends up in a tie.

Personally, I always root for it to happen. I just think it's funny and weird. The same way I always root for a position player to pitch, or for all three quarterbacks to get hurt. I like seeing unusual things.

That's the main reason I think the tie rule in the NFL isn't as big a deal as everyone will make of it. It simply does not happen often enough to really affect the game.

Changing the rules does not outweigh the downside of having these beasts beat on each other for another 15 minutes. Think about having to play an entire NFL game. Now think about playing one and a half football games. The injury risks are just too great.

Plus it's always fun to see the players that don't even realize the game is over. Come on guys learn the rules!
