Stechman, France win YCC best ball tournament

Eric Stechman and Marc France posted a three round, best ball gross score of 20-under par 196 to win the 2008 Yuma Country Club annual tournament last weekend. Second place gross went to Dave and Tony Sellers one stroke back at 197. Dustin Congrove and Mike Miller were the net team winners at 183 with Bob Martin and Rudy Berumen winning second net at 188.

• Hole-in-one congratulations are extended to Debbie Holscher for her ace on the fourth hole at the Desert Hills Golf Course on the Sept. 4. Debbie used a 6-iron for the ace which was witnessed by Karen Hitchens, Connie Chapman, Sue Janney and Sue Henson.

 • Country Club golf professional Richie Valenzuela shot a 4-under par 68 at the Las Barrancas Golf Course on Sept. 26 to set the gross score course record from the black tees. Congratulations Richie, you are amazing.

 • Stephen Schumack, David Fischer, Ray Crumby and Larry Palacio teamed for a scrambling net score of 52.2 to win the U of A Triple Threat tournament played at the Country Club on Tuesday morning. Second place went to the team of George Gonzalez, Bob Ricker, Jim Allen and Mike Van Allen with a 56 with third place going to Aaron Miller, Matt Amoya, Jerry Miller and Quincy Smith with a 56.

 • The Mesa Del Sol Golf Course is now open for play after the re-seeding process with winter rye grass was completed. The course has a wonderful stand of winter grass and the green fees are $21 for 18 holes and $11for nine holes after 11 a.m. Players may call the pro shop at 342-1283 for tee times or additional information.

 • Debbie Holscher posted a net score of 71 on Tuesday morning to win the DHWGA “Ace Of The Month” play. Karen Hitchins was the first flight winner at 73 with Sue Jannie winning second net at 76. Linda Watson was the third place winner at 77 with Connie Chapman winning fourth net at 78. The skill shot winners were Gloria Gentry, Karen Hitchins, connie chapman and Sue Janney.

 • Chuck Gibson and Jerry McMahan shot a scrambling gross score of four under par 68 to win the Desert Hills Men’s club play on the Sept. 20 with Mike Espil and Dick McGlothlin winning second gross. Gale and James McBride were the net winners at 54 with Jorge Hernandez and Anthony Lucero winning second net at 54.5. Mario Aceves and Rick Faris won third net with a 58.

 • The Yuma Flames Girls Fast Pitch Softball team fundraiser, two person scramble, will be played  at the Coyote Links Golf Course in Wellton on Oct. 11 with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The $80 per-person entry fee includes green and cart fees, a cook out, and the prize fund for the winning teams.
 The Yuma Flames are currently an age 14 and under girl’s fast pitch traveling softball team that plans to move up to age 16 years and under next season. The Flames will use the funds from this benefit golf tournament to purchase uniforms, game equipment, and help with the traveling expenses.  • The annual Foothills Optimist Club “Swing For Youth Scramble Tournament” will be played at the Mesa Del Sol Golf Course on Nov. 8 with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Players and sponsors may contact Sandy Williams at 342-3338 for entry or additional information.
