Matador softball sweeps Chandler-Gilbert

Briana VanSickle won both games Tuesday as the Arizona Western softball team swept a doubleheader at Chandler-Gilbert 10-1 and 8-5.

VanSickle (4-1) came on in relief in the second game after Jessica Leitner gave up five runs, two earned, in four innings — the Matadors committed five errors in the game after an errorless first game.

But VanSickle gave up one hit in three innings, and the Matadors (10-4 overall, 2-0 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference) scored four in the sixth after trailing 5-1 after four. AWC pounded out 14 hits in the win, including having five players with at least two hits. Courtnie Ploesch and Lauren Miranda had three hits each for AWC.

In the first game, the VanSickle allowed one earned run and five hits. Savanna Baggett had two hits and three RBIs for the Matadors.
