Somerton wins late
ARIZONA WINTER LEAGUE
Somerton got some late-game heroics off the bench and the Stingers got a comeback, 4-3 win over Calexico on Saturday.
Stingers starting pitcher Yoshimune Tsujii pitched a complete game, scattering five hits and a walk while striking out three. Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Jared Gore pinch-hit for Dakotah Bailey with runners on first and second with one out. Gore hit a 2-run double to deep center field to give Tsujii enough run support to come away with a win. Mario Flores went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run for the Stingers. Chaz Norman went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs for the Outlaws and Bryce Avila had an RBI double.
Elsewhere, San Luis had a big day at the plate and easily defeated Team Canada 8-4. Brian Marquez went 3 for 4 with three runs, two RBIs and a double for the Atleticos. Nicholas Lenzendorf has three RBIs and provided three scoreless innings of relief with five strikeouts for San Luis and Ryan Ozunko went 3 for 4 with an RBI.
For Team Canada, John Couch went 2 for 4 with two doubles and Shoya Iwasaki had an RBI double.
In the morning games, San Diego easily defeated Arizona 8-1, Blythe snuck by Long Beach 6-3 and Yuma and Saskatchewan ended in a 0-0 tie.
